Frequently Asked Permanent Makeup Questions

FAQs Permanent Makeup

  • What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent cosmetics is a safe natural looking alternative to your daily eyebrow and/ or eyeliner application using a non-surgical procedure to deposit pigment into the dermal (middle) layer of the skin. Micro pigmentation is done using a sophisticated digital tattoo machine to deposit the pigment into the skin by way of microscopic injections with a sterilized disposable one use fine needle/ needles.

  • Is it safe?

Yes. Monika Hibbard,LLC is a certified, insured, experienced (20+) years micro pigmentation technician. Your safety and comfort are her main priority.

  • Does it hurt?

Very little, if any discomfort is experienced during the procedure. Topical numbing agents are applied to the desired area before, during, and after the procedure to keep you comfortable.

  • Will it look natural?

Yes. It looks better than conventional makeup applications. Hair strokes are used to deposit the pigment mimicking the appearance of real hair. As it heals the pigment heals into the skin giving it a much softer appearance. I am a conservative technician who always airs on the side of caution so I like to start with less and build up rather than go to heavy or thick at first.

  • What is involved?

First you make an appointment for a consultation. If we do the patch test during the consultation there is a $50. which is applied to procedure charge. The patch test is a very small circle done discreetly in the scalp to check for any allergic reaction which would include redness, swelling, itching. It is done as a safe guard as the procedure is permanent. Twenty four hours after the patch you may schedule to have the procedure done. It takes one and half to two hours to complete the procedure. The main time consumption is the application of the topical numbing agents to allow them to penetrate into the skin. Lastly, you will schedule a touchup procedure 4 to 6 weeks after the initial procedure which usually takes less than an hour and half depending upon the color retention of your skin. Some people keep all the pigment while other lose 30%-50% during the healing process that is why the cost of the procedure covers all three visits. If you wait longer than the recommended 6 weeks for your last visit there will be an addition charge.!

  • How long does it last?

Permanent cosmetics are permanent as the pigment will always be in your skin depending upon your skin and the pigments used. Some skin retains pigment better than others.

  • Does it fade?!

Yes it will fade. Your face is always exposed to the elements and depending upon how well your skin retains pigment and how well you protect it(use of daily sunblock, sun glasses, no direct sun exposure, limited use of exfoliants) determines how quickly and to what degree it will fade.

  • How often will I have to get it touched up?

That is an individual preference. Some people like it done every 2 years while others wait longer.

  • What can I expect immediately after the procedure?

Eyebrows tend not to swell and there is little if any bleeding with any procedures. Eyes tend be a lot more sensitive for eyeliner procedure may swell and be more sensitive for 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. I suggest that you purchase a bag of frozen peas or corn wrapped in a paper towel to apply to area for your comfort. Do not where contacts during or immediately after the eyeliner procedure. Keep the procedure lubricated with the supplied ointment for 5-7 days using a clean cotton swap each time. Avoid submerging your head in water for 7 days. Do not wear any eye makeup or mascara for 7 days as this will remove the pigment.!

Frequently Asked Questions About Facials:

FAQs Facials

  • What is a facial?!

A facial is thorough cleansing and rebalancing of the facial skin according to your skin type by improving its overall appearance through the use of professional products, gentle enzymes, steam, extractions(sometimes not always), and facial massage. We also do a moisturizing had treatment and a relaxing and hydrating neck, shoulder, and decollate massage

  • Who can benefit from a facial?

Both men and women over the age of 18, with all skin types. If you are under a doctors care for a skin related or serious health issue we ask that you consult with your doctor before having any facial treatments. We also do teen facials with parental consent for ages 12 and up.

  • Will I break out?

Breakouts after a facial rarely happen but sometimes occur. If your skin is very congested and you are prone to breakouts than it is a possibility. If you do it is not bad as your skin is actively trying to release the toxins that have trapped in the skin. After the breakout your skin will balance itself out.

  • How do I know what facial is best for my skin type?

That decision is best left to your esthetician. We offer many different skin treatments and they are all customized to your particular skins needs. You can request a certain facial from our service menu and discuss it with your esthetician at the time of your appointment and she can make the appropriate recommendations for your specific skin type.

  • How often should I get facials?!

We recommend having a professional facial once a month. If that is not possible than every 3 months with the change of seasons. They make great gifts!

  • When will I see results?

The benefits are immediate and will last longer with the use of professional products. Professional products may cost a little more but you are buying better ingredients that are more active and more beneficial to your skin. Your face is what everyone sees, why not make it the best face it can be?

  • What is the difference between a facial and a peel?

A peel is deeper exfoliation of the skin with the use of AHA(alpha hydroxy acids) or Retinols(derivatives of Vitamin A). The word “acid” tends to scare people and make them think they will have to stay indoors after getting a peel. This is not true. The acids we use are non invasive yet very effective in removing dead skin cells and improving the overall tone and texture of the skin. The majority of our peel treatment are layer able, which means we apply the acid let it absorb into the skin, wait a few minutes and apply another layer and so on. We increase the strength of the acid gradually over time with your comfort level thereby reducing possible irritation.By using AHA’s and Retinols as a monthly or bi-monthly spa treatment you can achieve younger, healthier looking skin with no downtime and tremendous benefit. I highly recommend peels for all my clients 30 years of age an older.!

Thank you for a Wonderful experience. I was very afraid at first not knowing what to expect from permanent make up, but Monika made the process very easy and made me very comfortable and my eyebrows look gorgeous. My family and friends complimented me after I had them done and told me how good I looked but could not figure out what I had done until I told them.

Gail S.

My eyeliner looks great! It shapes my eyes perfectly and is not over stated. Monika made the the process so easy and made me feel very comfortable working so close to my eyes. I was a little nervous at first, but after the consultation I felt more at ease. Monika did a great job. I just wish I would have done this 20 years ago!

C. Manning

Cancer took all my hair and eyebrows away and when they finally grew back they were very sparse and light. A friend of mine referred me to Monika after having her eyebrows done after Cancer and I am so glad she did. I have my confidence back and feel much better about being in social situations now that my eyebrows look even better than they did before Cancer. Monika did a fantastic job even though she did not have much to work with. The color and arch are better now than what I had before. Thank You So Much!
